¡¡¡¡According to China Customs statistics, between January ¨C August, 2007, the total furniture exports from China dropped by 45.55% to 1.34 billion pieces, compared to the same period of the year before. However, in terms of dollar amount, China exported about US$14 billion of furniture products, representing 26.41% up from last year. Accordingly, average furniture price per pieces jumped by 132%, from US$4.49 to US$10.42.
¡¡¡¡US is still the biggest market for the Chinese furniture suppliers, which takes US$ 6.049 billion of sales, or 43.2% of the total, though its share is declining consecutively from 2005 (47.8%) and 2006 (46.4%) during the same period. European market as a whole represents the second biggest buyer. It is worth noting that Japan surpassed Hong Kong by marginally 0.1% in dollar amount to be the third largest market, reporting $0.87 billion of sales, or 6.2% of the total.
¡¡¡¡Guangdong Province exported $5.6 billion, or 40.1% of the total, topping all the furniture exporting regions in China. It is far followed by Zhejiang ($2.8 billion, 20%), and Shanghai ($1.4 billion, 10.2%).
¡¡¡¡China-based foreign-invested firms account for $8.028 billion of sales, or 57.4%of the total exports. However, its share is shrinking compared to previous years. The second largest group of exporters consists of private companies, which are growing steadily in the export market.
